Surya Mudra

Surya Mudra is created by placing the tip of the ring finger against the tip of the thumb.

The more I study the mudras, the more I am finding that they have several names and meanings, depending on the region and spiritual beliefs. For instance Hindus versus Buddhists may use the same symbol but have totally different names and meanings for them.

Surya symbolizes healthful energy, and the giving of health and intuition in Kundalini. It is a giver of energy and said to help with thyroid problems.

In Buddhism this symbol is often done with the right hand, facing up, palm out and the upturned fingers represent the ears of rabbits or horns. In Buddhism, this mudra is known as Kartari and is a gesture of discord.
